EST Girls Top 10 and The Best of The Rest; Week of 1/18/16

So if you've been following the blog, you've seen the daily Top 10 lists of those who participated in the EST summer leagues. Time for a weekly top 10!

**This list was compiled using the cumulative performances from Monday (1/18) through Sunday (1/24). Daily Top 10 lists were compiled before this combined rundown. The greater amount of appearances in the daily Top 10, the higher their appearance. Between players who made the same amount of appearances in a daily list, precedence was placed to those who appeared higher on the list(s).

10.) Lauraine Joensen (6'2" F; Northampton (MA) 2017) - Lauraine makes this list despite her team only having one game during the week. She made good use of it, having the top performance of Thursday with a game high 23 point, 19 rebound night in a 54-36 W over Minnechaug.

9.) Claire Sehring (5'9" F; Utica Notre Dame 2018) - Notre Dame's standout sophomore had a pair of strong outings over the course of the week, starting on Tuesday, where she finished with a team high 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 blocks in a 46-36 W. She followed it up with another W on Friday, scoring 16 points - 2 behind her sister Kate, who also was in EST.

8.) Natalie DiSalvo (5'10" G/F; Canton 2016) - Now it picks up. The All-EST 2nd Team performer - who was also a Class B All-State 2nd Team pick last season - finished with game highs of 22 points in a pair of wins over the course of the week. The first was in a 75-23 blowout, and the second came in a 47-43 W on the road over Class AA Rome Free Academy; a quality win for a Golden Bears squad currently ranked #13 in the NYSSWA Class B polls.

T-6.) Olivia Marshall (5'10" F; Stockbridge Valley 2017) - It was quite the week for Marshall, who's had quite the season in general. She averaged 16 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 9 BPG in a pair of wins; the latter being a game high 19 point, 14 rebound, 10 block, 3 steal performance in a 50-49 W that gave her Friday's top performance. On Tuesday, she finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 blocks in a 56-38 victory.

T-6.) Saeeda Abdul-Aziz (5'11" G/F; Mohonasen 2017) - More of a guard, but I'll throw the "F" in position detail because of how much she got from the post in a Wednesday victory over Cobleskill. The All-EST 1st Team standout's game high 25 point, 13 rebound, 5 assist, and 5 block performance in a 50-43 W earned #1 for the night. She also contributed 21 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks in a Friday L to Bethlehem.

5.) Lucy Tougas (5'10" G; Glens Falls 2017) - Another near triple-double machine, like Marshall, except the point guard is always approaching with assists instead of blocks. Tougas averaged 13.5 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 8.5 APG, and 3.5 SPG in a 2-0 week for the Indians, currently ranked #14 in the NYSSWA Class B polls. The All-EST 1st Teamer finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals in a Monday victory, then followed it up with a game high 14 point, 9 rebound, 10 assist, 3 steal night in a 54-32 W on Thursday.

4.) Liz Millea (5'6" G; Cooperstown 2016, Adelphi 2020) - Millea made up for a rough night to end the week prior with 2 standout games in the current week. She pumped in a pair of game highs in big Ws for New York State's top ranked Class C team. It started with a 24 point game in a 62-48 W on Wednesday, and she followed it up Saturday with a 29 point night - 15 coming from behind the 3 point line - in a 53-35 W over Milford. She added 6 steals in that game, with the Hawkeyes playing without the services of standout sophomore Julie Ford.

3.) Danielle Migliore (5'7" G; Frankfort-Schuyler 2016; St. Bonaventure 2020) - The inaugural Empire State Takeover girls' league MVP didn't get the top spot this week, but she certainly made a case for it by ending the week with a bang. Following a Wednesday blowout where she pumped in a game high 30 points (5 fewer than Frankfort's opponent as a whole), she finished with a game high 34 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks in a 64-56 W over Sherburne-Earlville. The rebound and steal totals were also team highs.

2.) Shiane Irwin (5'5" G; Poland 2017) - One of a pair of girls who made 3 Top 10 appearances over the course of the week, Irwin was a model of consistency for one of NYS' stronger small-school teams. She started off with a team high 17 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals in a 62-44 W Wednesday. Irwin followed it up with strong back-to-back performances; a game high 22 points in a 66-39 W, followed by a game high 23, along with 5 steals, in a 52-51 road L to Lowville. This coming week could be a milestone week for her; the Post-Standard statistical database has Irwin at 975 career points, with 3 games on tap as well.

1.) Rebekkah Dean (5'9" G/F; Mekeel Christian Academy 2018) - Not only did Dean hit the Top 10 lists 3 times this week, she peaked one of them. It was quite the week for her, as she averaged 22.7 PPG in a 3-0 week that featured (at least) a pair of double-doubles. Dean pumped in 24 points - which tied for a game high with friend & EST Outwork teammate Lyndsey McCoy - in a 53-46 W over Middleburgh Tuesday. She followed it up Friday with a game high 25 point, 16 rebound performance in which she outscored their opponents on her own, and had 19 points (another game high) & 13 rebounds in a 40-31 W over Ichabod Crane the day after.

- Emily Erickson (5'4" G; Tamarac 2019) - Finished with a game high 25 points in a 58-36 W Wednesday, and added a team high 14 (12/16 FT) in a 55-46 OT loss to Hoosic Valley Friday.

The All-EST 1st Teamer scored 16 of her points in the 1st half, with CVU resorting to a hybrid triangle & 2 defense against her after intermission.

- Kate Sehring (5'9" F; Utica Notre Dame 2016) - The senior captain, averaging 11 PPG & 7.1 RPG on a team with only 2 seniors, finished with a game high 18 points in a 60-45 W over Oneida Friday night.

  2. In this case, it was an omission that slipped by & I'll fix it now. My apologies.

That being said, the blog entries/daily & weekly lists are limited to people who participated in Empire State Takeover leagues over the summer. Gave them info last winter & tried to have her in the league, but family declined. She eventually played in 1 week (an AAU teammate got her to come on a week with low numbers), which I usually don't include in these lists - generally will only include people who participated in multiple weeks. However, reviewing the list, I did include 1 other person who was in the same boat for this particular one, so I'll make the change now.
