The word has been getting out that I put more miles on my car for EST than the average sane person should. Between that and the occasional person who's not aware of that and just asks where I'm headed, the running line lately has been 'Now where else are you going tonight?'. First off, I love it! Guess that means I'm pretty visible, which is certainly one of the goals. Now, why not - might as well mention where I'm headed for the rest of the week, since I actually have my schedule down for once! So, here it is below.
Thursday (2/18/16)
MHAL Girls Semifinals (Section IX) - games at SUNY Ulster
5:00 - Pine Plains/Spackenkill
7:00 - Saugerties/Marlboro
Pine Plains is led by 6'3" 2017 Ashley Starzyk, who participated in the 2015 EST summer league as a member of Outwork. They have three other underclassmen I'm hoping to get another look at, including Ashley's younger sister Bella (2019). Spackenkill is led by senior Nina Hartenfels; I have 2019 guard Issy Herrera on the list of people to watch. Saugerties is led by seniors Kellyann Averill (St. Thomas Aquinas commit) and Tanisha Edge; getting a look at freshman Grace VanRoy as well. Marlboro is another senior-led team (Julia Rusk) - no one on the watch list, but they seem to have a nice crew from year to year.
Friday (2/19/16)
Section II Boys Class B/C Quarterfinals - games at HVCC
5:00 - Mayfield/Berne-Knox-Westerlo
6:30 - Hudson/Voorheesville
8:00 - Hoosick Falls/Mekeel
I've already seen 4 of these teams, but the matchups at every site in Section II feature teams I've seen. Hoping to get a 2nd look at Mayfield 2019 Garrett Delaney, who scored 27 points in their game earlier this week. Berne-Knox-Westerlo features a pair of 1,000 point scorers that played in the EST summer league as members of Man Up in Justin Houck (2016) and Zach Hilton (2017) - hoping to have Zach back this summer. 21-0 Hudson has a crew that's pretty junior heavy - one I'm particularly interested in for EST is Mike Alert. This will be my first look at Voorheesville, with Sean Nolan (2017) on the list of people to watch. Hoosick Falls is balanced again, but certainly led by All-EST Honorable Mention Connor McCart (2016), who played for Man Up. They face Mekeel, who features EST participant Scott Voelker (2016), who played for Bellevue. It'll be my first look at them this year; Deonte Holder & Carter Stewart, both sophomores, are on the player watch list.
Saturday (2/20/16)
Section III Boys Class AA, B, C, D Semifinals - games at Onondaga CC SRC Arena & Allyn Hall
Games at SRC
11:00 - Tully/Weedsport
12:45 - Cooperstown/Herkimer
2:45 - Sackets Harbor/Oriskany
4:30 - Madison/New York Mills
6:30 - Liverpool/Corcoran
8:15 - Bishop Ludden/Henninger
Games at Allyn
4:00 - Skaneateles/Bishop Grimes
6:00 - Syracuse Academy of Science/Syracuse Institute of Technology Central
Full day of action, with 8 games between the two adjoining facilities (just a walk up the stairs and a hallway separate the two). It'll be a productive day, as I've only seen 7 of the 16 teams so far (8, if you include a Bishop Grimes shootaround at this same OCC facility - may go down as the single most memorable moment of this season). Players here that participated in the EST summer league include All-EST Honorable Mention Tyler Bertram (Cooperstown 2018), Derek Newman (Herkimer 2017), and Andrew Mason (Herkimer 2017). All 3 played for Upstate Select. There's a total of 21 players left on the watch list that will be on the court during the day. In the slots where there are conflicting times, I'll probably be paying more attention to the 4:30 game between Madison & New York Mills and Liverpool/Corcoran at 6:30.
Sunday (2/21/16)
Section III Girls Class AA, A, B, C, D Semifinals - games at Onondaga CC SRC Arena & Allyn Hall
Games at SRC
12:00 - CBA/Jamesville-Dewitt
1:45 - Indian River/Whitesboro
3:45 - Frankfort-Schuyler/Cooperstown
5:30 - Utica Proctor/Cicero-North Syracuse
7:15 - West Genesee/Liverpool
Games at Allyn
11:00 - Copenhagen/Madison
12:45 - Watertown IHC/New York Mills
2:45 - Syracuse Academy of Science/Sauquoit Valley
4:30 - Bishop Ludden/Westhill
6:15 - Skaneateles/South Jefferson
Even bigger of a day, with 10 games between the adjoining SRC Arena and Allyn Hall. Games will be going on simultaneously between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM. I've seen 10 out of the 20 teams this season - 11 if Poland wins Thursday - although admittedly, I wasn't paying too much attention during Skaneateles & South Jefferson showings. 5 of these teams, including those 2, were seen over Christmas break at this same OCC facility. Players here that participated in the EST summer league include EST MVP Danielle Migliore (Frankfort-Schuyler 2016, St. Bonaventure 2020), All-EST 2nd Team Jordan Lee (Whitesboro 2017), All-EST Honorable Mention Cassidy Albright (New York Mills 2016), All-EST Honorable Mention Danielle Caivana (Frankfort-Schuyler 2017), Liz Millea (Cooperstown 2016, Adelphi 2020), Lexi Tubbs (Madison 2016), and Beana Demarco (Whitesboro 2018). There's a total of 31 players left on the watch list that will be on the court during the day. Every single game has someone playing that's on that list except for Frankfort/Cooperstown, a game I'm interested in because of the matchup in itself - so I'll be bouncing around quite a bit during the day & night.
23 games over the next 4 days with dozens of new faces to watch... bring on the caffeine, and I'll see you on the trail!
