ESTers in Action: 11/30-12/1/18

Basketball season is now getting into full swing! Many of upstate NY's most talented high school basketball players, representing NYSPHSAA Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, & 10 (all but NYC & Long Island), along with additional talent from CT, MA, NH, PA, and VT participated in various EST events in 2018. These events included the 4th Annual summer league, 4th Annual Upstate Fall Showcase, 2nd Annual Summer Kickoff, and the 1st Annual Middle School Combine.

A listing of how some of those ESTers did with their high school/prep school squads during Friday/Saturday games is below. It starts off with those that played in the summer league, by section, and then continues to those that participated just in one-day events. SUMMER LEAGUE

Section 2

- Kelsey Wood (Averill Park 2020) had a monster game for the Warriors Friday, dropping a game high 27 points as they overcame an early deficit to defeat Ballston Spa 61-51. EmmaLee Morgan (Averill Park 2019; NYIT commit) chipped in with 13 in the win.

- Aliyah Wright (Colonie 2019; New Haven signee) led all scorers with 21 points, knocking down 3 threes and going 6/6 from the charity stripe, as they started their season with a 55-43 triumph over Niskayuna.

- Jenalyse Alarcon (Troy 2021) led all scorers with 18 points and Alaina Holmes (Troy 2020) joined her in double figures with 14, and they started off their season on the right foot with a 60-36 W over Burnt Hills Friday.

- The twins went off and combined for 40, many in the first half, in a season opening blowout victory for Cambridge. Lilly Phillips (Cambridge 2021) had a game high 23 points with 6 threes, and Sophie Phillips (Cambridge 2021) hit 3 of her own and added 17 points, as they beat Section 9's SS Seward 73-46 Friday. They followed it up with another blowout victory the following day - Sophie scored 14 and Lilly had 10, as four Indians finished in double digits and they got to watch from the bench in the 4th quarter in a 60-28 W over Cooperstown in Delaware Academy's tip-off tournament championship game. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

- Emma Shields (Emma Willard 2022) pumped in a game high 23 points as they rolled Berlin Friday, 74-24.

- Schalmont 2022 teammates Payton Graber and Haley Burchhardt led the charge as the Sabres earned a quality season opening win. Graber led all scorers with 15 and Burchhardt added 12, and they beat Catholic Central 41-31 Friday.

- Alexis Wright (Berne-Knox-Westerlo 2022) led all scorers with 18 points Friday, but they fell to visiting Fonda-Fultonville 59-39.

Section 3

- Allison Moreau (Sauquoit Valley 2019; Le Moyne signee (soccer)) had one for the ages Friday night, as the Indians pulled out a victory with her scoring over 85% of her team's points. She dropped a game high 37 points, matching Adirondack's total in a 43-37 triumph. Allie is averaging 38 PPG in this young season. In defeat, Adirondack 2020 standout Belle Kranbuhl was responsible for the lion's share of her team's offensive production, finishing with a team high 22 points & 12 rebounds.

- Kiley Snow (Whitesboro 2020) paced the Warriors with 14 points Friday, but they fell in a neutral site contest to 2017-18 NYSPHSAA Class B state semifinalist Northeastern Clinton 46-39. She also contributed double digits the following day, chipping in 12 in their 87-30 blowout over Beekmantown. In Saturday's game, Kelsey Wands (Whitesboro 2019) led the way with 16 points, 1 of 4 Warriors in double figures.

- Kayla Usborne (Madison 2019) finished with a game high 18 points and added 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 8 steals in their 49-19 triumph over Stockbridge Valley Friday.

- Jaelyn Vleer-Elliott (Brookfield 2021) had one of the more interesting stat lines you'll see this winter in their opener, contributing 8 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals, & 3 blocks in their 39-37 defeat to Mt. Markham. The near triple-double became a real triple-double the next day, as she went for 15 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, & 3 blocks in their 60-20 W over host Richfield Springs.

- Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent 2020) chipped in with 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks in their 44-35 loss to Horseheads at Oneonta's Drago tournament Friday, and she added a similar stat line of 7 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks in their 45-38 defeat to Johnson City the following day.

- Adrien LaMora (Indian River 2022) continued a nice start to her freshman season, finishing with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, & 4 steals in their 62-29 victory over Norwood-Norfolk.

Section 4

- Melanie Hoyt (Stamford 2021) had a well-rounded game Friday, finishing with a game high 20 points in their 47-30 defeat of host Milford.

Melanie Hoyt has contributed back to back 20+ point performances in a 3-0 start for Stamford.
Section 9

- Anna VanRoy and Grace VanRoy (Saugerties 2019) finished with 13 points apiece Saturday, but they fell to visiting Albany in their tournament championship game, 61-59.

NEPSAC

- Northfield Mount Hermon started off their season with a pair of victories, with Grace Heeps (NMH 2019; UMass signee) and Silke Milliman (NMH 2019; Penn signee) being large parts of it. Milliman finished with 18 points and Heeps added 16 points & 5 assists in their 78-30 W over Top Flight Academy Friday. The following day, in a 55-39 W over Thayer Academy, Milliman contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds & 6 blocks and Heeps also filled the stat line with 10 points, 8 rebounds, & 4 assists.

- Sophie Tougas (Brewster Academy 2020) finished with team highs of 20 & 11 points, respectively, in games on consecutive days. An undermanned Brewster squad with 6 available players fell in both games, Friday to Dexter Southfield and Saturday to Lawrence Academy.


ONE DAY EVENTS (Summer Kickoff, Upstate Fall Showcase, Middle School Combine)

Section 2

- Julia Harvey (Bethlehem 2021) paced a balanced attack with 11 points Friday, but they fell to Guilderland, 53-49.

- Breanna Lott (Mohonasen 2020) continued her early season tear, going off for a game high 32 points Friday as they beat Lansingburgh 62-46.

- Fonda-Fultonville teammates Abby Lombardoni (2020) and Carly Atty (2022) finished in double digits and were part of a balanced attack, helping the Braves go to 2-1 on the season. Lombardoni had a team high 13 points and Atty added 10, and they defeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo 59-39 Friday. It was more of the same the following day, with Lombardoni finishing with 11 and Atty chipping in 10 again, as the Braves had a big 3rd quarter and held off West Canada Valley 50-44.

- Kelsey Terrell (Middleburgh 2019) pumped in a game high 25 points Friday as they dismantled Section IV's Sharon Springs, 73-19. She one-upped herself the following day, knocking down 4 threes and finishing with a game high 26 points in their 56-54 W over host Gilboa in their tournament championship. For her efforts, she was named tournament MVP.

- Duanesburg teammates Maddie Meyer (2022) and Allison O'Hanlon (2024) had strong games Saturday, helping the Eagles run to a 2-0 start. Meyer led all scorers with 23 points and O'Hanlon added 13 in their 53-42 W over Schoharie.

Section 3

- Ally Shoemaker (Chittenango 2020) messed around and had a triple-double Friday, going for 12 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 6 steals as they defeated Skaneateles 63-45.

- Piper Seamon (Cooperstown 2020) had a solid game Saturday, tying for a game high 14 points in a 60-28 defeat to Cambridge in the Delaware Academy tip-off tournament championship game. She also contributed 10 points & 6 rebounds the day before, beating the hosts 50-38 to get to the championship. She was named to the all-tournament team.

- Alana Batson (Whitesboro 2021) was one of four Warriors to hit double digits Saturday, finishing with 14 points as they defeated Beekmantown 87-30 in a neutral site game.

Section 4

- Jill Casey (Horseheads 2020; Quinnipiac commit) led all scorers with 20 points Friday night, as her squad defeated Section 3's Holland Patent 44-35 in the opening round of Oneonta's Drago tournament.

Section 6/Monsignor Martin

- Shay Ciezki (St. Mary's Lancaster 2022) dropped a game high 26 points Friday, and her squad rolled to a 91-30 W over Fredonia. Lauren Nawojski (2020) added 9 points, and Sydney Ottomano (2021) & Margaret Nawojski (2022) chipped in with 8 apiece.

One of WNY's most promising talents, Shay Ciezki, hung a game high 26 in Friday's victory for St. Mary's Lancaster.
NEPSAC

- It was a strong home debut for Jordyn Meunier (Williston Northampton 2021) over the weekend. She was one of two on her team to drop 20+ points, finishing with 21 in a 73-48 victory.
