ESTers in Action: Feb 1-2

A quick disclaimer:

This blog post - and preceding blog posts - highlight players that have participated in Empire State Takeover events. This could include the flagship event, the summer league (4th annual coming in June 2018), the Upstate Elite Showcase fall event (3rd annual was Oct 1, 2017), or the Summer Kickoff (1st annual was June 16, 2017). This isn't just a general media page - not only am I showing love to EST participants that are making things happen with their high school teams in the winter, it's also another way to show what caliber of talent is in the gym for an EST event! This particular post, highlight games from Thursday & Friday of this week, features participants from 8 sections of the NYSPHSAA, Massachusetts, Vermont, and the NEPSAC. No wonder why many families - both local to Albany and from states that don't even border NY - along with numerous college coaches have already reached out about 2018 events! Now, enough of that. How EST participants did over the last couple days:

NEPSAC

Northfield Mount Hermon 64, Marianapolis 48
Silke Milliman (NMH 2019) finished with 13 points & 4 blocks, and Grace Heeps (NMH 2019) flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists in Friday's win.


Section I

Rye 48, Byram Hills 37
Teaghan Flaherty (Rye 2020) continued her strong sophomore campaign, leading all scorers with 22 points in Friday's win.


Section II

Saratoga Springs 70, Averill Park 65
In the game I attended Friday, Kerry Flaherty (Saratoga Springs 2019; Holy Cross commit) went off for a game high 29 points, hitting 4 treys and going 5/5 from the line in the process. Dolly Cairns (Saratoga Springs 2020) contributed 16 points in the win. In defeat, Kelsey Wood (Averill Park 2020) finished with a team high 18 points. EmmaLee Morgan (Averill Park 2019) and Amelia Wood (Averill Park 2022) finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Shenendehowa 77, Ballston Spa 20
Cameron Tooley (Shenendehowa 2018; Le Moyne signee) finished with a game high 23 points, hitting 5 threes in the process, and 11 assists. She's hit 60 treys on the year and has hit 4+ in 4 straight, and 6 of her last 8 games. Alexandra Tudor (Shenendehowa 2018; St. Francis (BK) signee) also had a strong game, finishing with 17 points. D3 bound seniors Julia Ryan (Shenendehowa 2018; Mount Ida commit) and Kylie Sisto (Shenendehowa 2018; Mount Saint Mary commit) finished with 8 & 6, respectively, in their senior night win.

Guilderland 63, Schenectady 57
Valencia Fontenelle-Posson (Guilderland 2021) led all scorers with 28 points in the win, pushing her scoring average up to 18.5 PPG. Aysia Pink (Guilderland 2021) added 14 in the victory. In defeat, Jeonna Anderson (Schenectady 2019) was one of two Patriots in double figures, finishing with 12.

Troy 56, Columbia 39
Jenalyse Alarcon (Troy 2021) was one of two Flying Horses in double figures, finishing with 12 points, as they picked up a big road W on Friday.

Niskayuna 63, Mohonasen 41
Breanna Lott (Mohonasen 2020) finished with a game high 25 points (4 threes) in defeat. She's averaging nearly 19.5 PPG; nearly 47% of her team's scoring output this winter.

Amsterdam 72, Hudson Falls 34
Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam 2018) dropped a game high 30 points, continuing her tear as the host Rams ran away with a Thursday victory.

Amsterdam 73, Queensbury 48
Another big game for one of Section II's leading scorers, Giuliana Pritchard. The Amsterdam senior went off for a game high 31 points, as her visiting squad broke it open with a 20-3 4th quarter. This was her 4th game scoring 30+ points this season, all of them being in this calendar year. She's now averaging 23.3 PPG, 2nd in Section II.

Schalmont 45, Ravena 29
Madison Graber (Schalmont 2018; SUNY Cortland commit) led all scorers in the Sabres' win with 15 points, and little sister Payton Graber (Schalmont 2022) also finished in double digits with 11.

Kelsey Wood, a sophomore at Averill Park, led them with 18 points in their close 70-65 defeat to Saratoga Friday.

Cobleskill-Richmondville 61, Albany Academy for Girls 34
Allie Pacatte (Cobleskill 2018) & Lauren Hill (Cobleskill 2018) finished with 12 points apiece in Friday night's win.

Tamarac 41, Stillwater 26
Renna Poulin (Tamarac 2019) chipped in 13 points in Friday night's win.

Greenwich 50, Mechanicville 49
Molly Brophy (Greenwich 2021) finished with a game high 18 points in a big Wasaren League victory on Friday. In defeat, Sam Pasinella (Mechanicville 2018) contributed a team high 12.

Cambridge 51, Hoosic Valley 43
Sophie Phillips (Cambridge 2021) pumped in a game high 18 points as Cambridge jumped to a double digit lead through 3 quarters and went to 18-0 on the season.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo 59, Galway 34
Taylor Meacham (BKW 2020) went off for a game high 28 points in Friday's victory.

Hoosick Falls 45, Waterford 27
Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls 2020) finished with a game high 19 points in Friday's win.

Greenville 56, Maple Hill 35
Ava Fitzmaurice ('15-'16 ESTer; Greenville 2018, New Haven softball commit), Section II's leading scorer, finished with a game high 25 in Friday night's W.

Warrensburg 55, Corinth 25
Hope Boland (Warrensburg 2020) was one of three in double figures for the winners, finishing with 12 points.

Heatly 39, Germantown 30
Kyra Oeffler (Heatly 2018; Sage commit) led all scorers with 14 points in the victory.


Section III

West Genesee 66, Henninger 38
Madison Smith (West Genesee 2019) scored all of her points from behind the 3-point line in a blowout W Thursday, hitting 4 threes and finishing with 12 points.

Auburn 55, East Syracuse-Minoa 19
Stef Gera (Auburn 2019) was one of three in double figures, finishing with a game high 13 points in the W. They led by 35 at halftime.

New Hartford 59, Whitesboro 58
Kaia Henderson (New Hartford 2022) dropped a game high 30 points in the Spartans' rivalry W, including 2 free throws with 4 seconds left to win the game.

South Jefferson 53, Indian River 29
Jackie Piddock (South Jefferson 2022) finished with a team high 13 points in a balanced effort. She added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals. Jenna Zimmerman (South Jefferson 2018; Le Moyne signee) added 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks, and Alyssa Stevenson (South Jefferson 2019) finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

Bishop Grimes 64, CBA 46
Abby Wilkinson (Bishop Grimes 2019) led all scorers with 19 points (3 threes) in the Cobras' W on Friday. In defeat, Brooke Jarvis (CBA 2020) finished with a team high 14 points.

Oneida 42, Homer 37
Sydney Lusher (Oneida 2021) filled the stat line in their win, finishing with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Hannibal 55, Phoenix 47
Samantha Doupe (Phoenix 2018) finished with 16 points, tying for a team high, in defeat on Friday.

Cooperstown 64, Mount Markham 30
Julie Ford (Cooperstown 2018; Albany signee) finished with a game high 16 points and added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks in the win. Maggie Schuermann (Cooperstown 2018) added 11 points for the Hawkeyes.

Sauquoit Valley 58, Westmoreland 16
Allison Moreau (Sauquoit Valley 2019) had another big game in a strong junior year, leading all scorers with 28 points in the Friday victory.

Little Falls 62, Clinton 21
Olivia Langdon (Little Falls 2019) finished with a game high 18 points in a blowout W for the Mounties.

Brookfield 66, Otselic Valley 38
Jaelyn Vleer-Elliott (Brookfield 2021) finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 4 blocks in another blowout W for the Beavers. They jumped out to a 20 point lead by halftime.


Section IV

Horseheads 49, Ithaca 39
Jill Casey (Horseheads 2020) led three in double digits, finishing with a game high 16 points in Thursday's win.

Elmira 68, Maine-Endwell 63
Ashlynn McKnight (Maine-Endwell 2019) was one of four in double figures, finishing with 12 points in the narrow defeat on Thursday.

Seton Catholic 65, Norwich 41
Hanna Strawn (2016 ESTer; Seton Catholic 2018, Monmouth signee) and Marina Maerkl (Seton Catholic 2019) were two of four in double figures for the Saints. Strawn finished with 15, and Maerkl added 10.

Susquehanna Valley 62, Oneonta 32
Holly Manchester (Susquehanna Valley 2018) contributed 10 points in Thursday's win.

Stamford 61, Schenevus 19
Melanie Hoyt (Stamford 2021) finished with a game high 21 points in Thursday's victory. Haley Steenland (Stamford 2018) added 20 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals.


Section V

Wayne 42, Waterloo 35
Alana Kornaker (Wayne 2018) finished with a team high 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in Friday's win.


Section VII

Northern Adirondack 63, Ticonderoga 52
Emily Pike (Ticonderoga 2018; Sage 2022) finished with a team high 25 points in defeat on Friday.

Bolton 58, Seton Catholic 39
On senior night, Maddy Pratt (Bolton 2018) not only finished with 20 points, but reached the 1,000 point milestone in the process. Kate Van Auken (Bolton 2021) led all scorers in the win with 22 points.


Section IX

Washingtonville 65, Kingston 64 (OT)
Chloe Chaffin (Kingston 2018; Fordham signee) dropped a game high 30 points & added 4 steals in Friday's heartbreaker.

Valley Central 57, Middletown 30
Megan Roell (Valley Central 2018) led all scorers with 15 points in Friday's win. Kiki Kennedy (Middletown 2020) finished with a team high 14 in defeat.

Saugerties 53, New Paltz 37
The VanRoy twins combined for 32 points as Saugerties continues to stake its claim as Section 9's top Class A team. Grace VanRoy (Saugerties 2019) led all scorers with 18 points in the win, and Anna VanRoy (Saugerties 2019) contributed 14 points.

Highland 59, Wallkill 31
Brianna Rozzi (Highland 2019) led all scorers with 16 points in their blowout Friday win.
Bri Rozzi, pictured in a late December win over Millbrook, helped push state-ranked Highland to 13-1 on the season.
Marlboro 79, Goshen 40
Erin Smith (Goshen 2020) finished with a team high 20 points in defeat.

Millbrook 52, Spackenkill 38
With Marist head coach Brian Giorgis in attendance for her, Erin Fox (Millbrook 2020) went off for a game high 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals in the victory.


Massachusetts

Mount Everett 60, McCann Tech 28
Gwen Carpenter (2016 ESTer; Mount Everett 2019) finished with a game high 17 points.

Mount Everett 66, Taconic 59
Gwen Carpenter (2016 ESTer; Mount Everett 2019) dropped a game high 28 points, 10 coming from the charity stripe, in Friday's win.

Wahconah 49, Hoosac Valley 40
Lexi Mercier (Hoosac Valley 2019) knocked down 4 threes and finished with 14 points in Thursday's loss.


Vermont

Mount Anthony 63, Brattleboro 61 (OT)
Grace Mahar (MAU 2020) went off for a team high 25 points in an exciting W at Kates Gym on Thursday. Anna Iannotti (MAU 2018) added 19 points in the senior night victory.
