Next Level 48, Young Guns 34
A game that had all the makings of a blowout early got very interesting in the 2nd half as Young Guns shook off an abysmal shooting start to catch fire in the 3rd quarter, but a timely Next Level run in the 4th effectively shut down any question of who was coming away with the win. Next Level scored the first 11 points of the game, getting their first double digit lead on an Allison Moreau (Sauquoit Valley 2019) basket, while holding Young Guns scoreless for the first nine minutes of the game. It took an additional three minutes for Young Guns to make a field goal, when Mikyla Mitchell (Scotia-Glenville 2020) hit a three to cut their deficit to 13-5. That was their only made basket of the half, but despite going 1/24 from the field in the first 20 minutes, they only had an 11 point hole to climb out of at the break. A hot start to the 3rd helped them climb out of the hole entirely - Lexi Van Vorst (Columbia 2019) and Aysia Pink (Colonie 2021) each hit a pair of threes in the quarter - and a Julia DeBeatham (Shaker 2020) floater tied the game at 25 with two minutes left in the 3rd quarter. With Next Level holding just a two point lead through three quarters, they turned on the jets using a balanced effort to pull back away. They went on a 12-0 run to start the 4th, largely fueled by the strong play of Adirondack 2020 Belle Kranbuhl. The 6'2" rising sophomore scored 6 of the 12 and assisted on another basket, a three by Silke Milliman (Northfield Mount Hermon 2019). They were able to extend the lead to 16 on two separate occasions late in the 4th, their largest lead of the night. Next Level was spearheaded by Kranbuhl, who had undoubtedly the best game of her two years in EST, finishing with a game high (and EST career high) 17 points to go with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Milliman also contributed double digits, finishing with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, and Jenna Zimmerman (South Jefferson 2018) added 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Young Guns received a team high 12 points from Van Vorst, and Pink added 10.

Next Big Thing 74, Dynasty 37
It was a nightmare game for Dynasty, as they found themselves unable to get into the flow of the game until the 4th quarter. They also ran into a buzzsaw in a Next Big Thing squad that, despite it just being the 2nd official night of EST games, played like they've been together for years. Holding a 14-6 lead after 1 quarter, Julie Ford (Cooperstown 2018/Albany commit) scored 7 quick points in a 9-0 NBT run to push their lead to 17 early in the 2nd. A Madison Graber (Schalmont 2018) three gave them a 20 point lead at 30-10, and they held a 35-15 edge at the break. It was far from over there, as they continued to use balance and an uptempo style to push the lead further. They led by 29 after 3 quarters, Lilly Phillips (Cambridge 2021) scored the first basket of the 4th on a Stephanie Jankovic (Averill Park 2018) feed, and it was over 30 the rest of the way. They pushed the lead all the way to 42 in the 4th quarter, doing so on a Renna Poulin (Tamarac 2019) basket. It was a perfect storm, with Next Big Thing playing nearly as well as they could and Dynasty playing nearly as poorly as they could. NBT had 21 assists on 29 field goals, and they held an incredible 57-22 rebounding edge. Graber finished with a double-double of 15 points/10 rebounds and added 3 assists. Jankovic almost messed around and had a triple-double, finishing with 12 points/9 rebounds/8 assists and 5 steals. Lilly Phillips contributed 13 points & 4 assists. Ford, Poulin, and Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls 2020) all scored 9 points; Ford added 10 rebounds, Thayne 8, and Poulin 6. For Dynasty, Ashlyn O'Neil (Galway 2019) led the way with 9 points and Alivia Paeglow (Colonie 2019) added 8.

Rising Stars 51, Show Stoppers 43
For the 2nd straight game on Court 1, a team's awful shooting start didn't prevent the game from becoming very interesting in the 2nd half. Show Stoppers found a way to lead after 3 quarters despite being blanked in the 1st, but a strong combined effort from a pair of local standout 2019s allowed Rising Stars to regain control. It took until the 8 minute mark of the 2nd quarter for Show Stoppers to make a mark on the scoreboard, when a Madison Hoyt jumper finally fell. Their defense allowed them to stay in the game in the 1st half, as they found themselves down only 6 at the break. The charge continued, thanks to a concerted effort from Hoyt, fellow Section IV representative Holly Manchester (Susquehanna Valley 2018), and Julianna Okoniewski (Bethlehem 2018). They combined for 17 of their team's 20 points in the 3rd, and an Okoniewski basket gave them a 31-28 lead in the final minute of the 3rd. Rising Stars regained control with a 10-2 run, most coming in the beginning of the 4th. Saratoga Springs 2019 Kerry Flaherty had a pair of baskets in the spurt, and had another one after a Hoyt basket to bring Rising Stars' lead back to 5. Show Stoppers challenged one more time, as Manchester scored 6 straight points on drives to the rim, but a Cat Almeida (Shenendehowa 2019) bucket - the final 2 of her 7 points in the 4th quarter - gave her Rising Stars squad breathing room for good. Almeida, a 6'5" F who's recently received offers from Manhattan & Cal State Bakersfield to go with her previous Binghamton offer, led the Stars with 11 points and added 6 rebounds. Flaherty also had 7 in the 4th and finished with 9 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. They also received 7 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists from Dolly Cairns (Saratoga Springs 2020). Manchester led all scorers with 14 points in defeat, and she added 4 steals. Hoyt and Okoniewski each came just short of a double-double - Hoyt had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and Okoniewski finished with 10 points & 8 rebounds.

Outwork 49, Lockdown 42
It was an entertaining game from start to finish, with new faces to EST bolstering the level of play, but in the end, the most consistent face of them all in EST was too much for her opponent. A hot start from reigning MVP Chloe Chaffin (Kingston 2018/Fordham commit) - the league's all-time leader in points and games played - helped Outwork jump to a 22-9 lead after the first ten minutes. She had 11 in the frame, scoring in plenty of different ways. Lockdown started to get back into it in the 2nd quarter, receiving contributions across the board and 5 quick points from Jenalyse Alarcon (Troy 2021) to get it back within single digits. The Chaffin/Erin Fox (Millbrook 2020) tandem went to work early in the 3rd - two Chaffin baskets assisted by Fox and a Fox basket assisted by Chaffin were the first 6 points of the 3rd, helping Outwork get back up 15. A pair of free throws and a three from Erin Fouracre (Colonie 2018/Le Moyne commit), making her EST debut, cut Lockdown's deficit to 10, and a free throw from Amelia Wood (Averill Park 2022), a top rising 8th grader in upstate NY also making her EST debut knocked it to 42-33 after 3. Chaffin answered with a three, the final of her game high 22 points, to give Outwork a double-digit lead again. Despite Lockdown making one more push, with Alarcon & Fouracre teaming up to score 5 straight to cut the deficit to 47-40 late, it wasn't enough. Along with the game and season high 22 points, Chaffin added 12 rebounds for an impressive double-double and the first ever 20-10 game in EST. Fox, a 5'11" SF/PF, filled the stat line with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Fouracre led the way with 11 points for Lockdown, and Alarcon added 8. Kelsey Wood (Averill Park 2020) had a team high 9 rebounds to go with her 5 points.

Next Level 46, Dynasty 43
For the 2nd straight game, an undefeated Next Level squad squandered a double digit lead. For the 2nd straight game, they were able to hold off their opponent and get the win, but unlike the 5:30 game, this one went down to the final possession. Strong starts from Silke Milliman (Northfield Mount Hermon 2019) and Alivia Paeglow (Colonie 2019) helped their Next Level and Dynasty squads get off on the right foot in the 1st quarter, but it was Next Level that continued in the next 10 minutes after leading by 1 going into the quarter. A 14-4 quarter, capped by a three from Aubrey Halloran (Albany 2018) on a Grace Heeps (Northfield Mount Hermon 2019) feed gave Next Level a 31-20 halftime lead. Another 7-0 run, capped by a Belle Kranbuhl (Adirondack 2020) basket, gave them their largest lead at 40-24 in the middle of the 3rd. It had the makings of a runaway - but Dynasty had other plans. A Paige Brinkman (Schalmont 2018) three off a Paeglow feed cut Dynasty's deficit to 12 after three quarters, and they were able to cause fits for Next Level on the defensive end in the final 10 minutes. Another Kranbuhl basket gave Next Level a 43-29 lead early in the 4th, but that would be the only field goal they'd make in the quarter as they shot 1/12 from the field. Five straight EmmaLee Morgan (Averill Park 2019) points started the Dynasty run, and another 9-0 spurt fueled by Paeglow and Bella Stuart (Shenendehowa 2020) brought Dynasty's deficit down to 2 in the waning moments, as a Paeglow basket made it 45-43. Forced to foul, they sent Jenna Zimmerman (South Jefferson 2018) to the line, who split a pair to give Next Level a 3 point lead with around 5 seconds remaining. After drawing up a play in the frontcourt, Dynasty's last second attempt was off, and Next Level escaped to go 4-0. Halloran had team highs of 12 points and 8 rebounds in another strong game in EST for her. Milliman added 9 points, and Kranbuhl had 6 points & 6 rebounds. For Dynasty, Paeglow led all scorers with 13 points on 6/10 shooting, and Morgan contributed 8 points & 6 rebounds.

Next Big Thing 62, Young Guns 39
It was another breakout game for a NBT squad that has exceeded expectations in EST thus far, and although the winless Young Guns were able to hang around in the 1st half, the balance, teamwork, and uptempo style of NBT was too much to handle. An entertaining first 15 minutes saw a handful of lead changes, but a 17-6 2nd quarter - finished with a NBT 8-0 spurt - gave them a 34-21 lead at the break. After a Rhaymi Porter (Scotia-Glenville 2020) basket started the 3rd for the Young Guns, NBT went on another extended run, this one 10-0 to push their cushion to 44-23. Stephanie Jankovic (Averill Park 2018) scored 7 of the 10 points herself, and she assisted on the other three to Renna Poulin (Tamarac 2019). Young Guns played hard to the final whistle, but NBT was able to hold that lead for the remainder of the game, hovering between 17 & 25 the rest of the way. Poulin led all scorers with 17 points, and she added 8 rebounds and 3 assists. 7 came in the 1st quarter, and an additional 5 came in the important 3rd quarter. Jankovic had another big game for NBT, finishing with a double-double of 15 points & 11 rebounds at the guard spot. Madison Graber (Schalmont 2018) joined them in double digits with 12, and Julie Ford (Cooperstown 2018/Albany commit) added 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Aysia Pink (Colonie 2021) had a strong game in defeat for Young Guns, scoring 9 of her team high 16 points in the 1st quarter, and she added 4 rebounds. Lexi DeBeatham (Shaker 2018) joined her in double figures with 10.

Outwork 60, Show Stoppers 53
Huge games from a couple returning members of last year's championship Outwork team, plus a breakout game from a new member, helped an undermanned squad break away and take home their 2nd victory of the night. They took the lead early and held it for good, as a Maggie Malone (Cornwall 2019) basket not only gave them a 5-4 lead, but it was in the beginning stages of a 14-0 run, culminating with a Chloe Chaffin (Kingston 2018/Fordham commit) bucket that gave Outwork a 16-4 lead. Show Stoppers answered with a 9-0 run of their own to get back into it. Shyla Sanford (Shaker 2018/LIU Brooklyn commit) had 5 of them, and her basket at the end of the run cut their deficit to 3. Their balance was met by a strong 2nd quarter from Outwork's Erin Fox (Millbrook 2020). The rising Section IX talent had 8 of Outwork's 12 in the quarter, allowing them to keep a 28-24 cushion at the break. Fox passed the baton off to Malone at halftime, and she ran with it. While a tough Show Stoppers team was able to hang around, the story of the 2nd half was Malone. The 5'9" rising junior found ways to score in the half-court or on the break, with the jumper or with the drive. She scored the first 11 points of the 2nd half for Outwork, and it took everything the Show Stoppers had to keep up. Malone continued her onslaught in the 4th, now with help from Fox & Chaffin. After a Sam Pasinella (Mechanicville 2018) bucket cut Show Stoppers' deficit to 45-40, it was Malone starting what turned into a back-breaking 13-2 run with a basket off a Chaffin feed. Fox then scored back-to-back times, and after a Melanie Hoyt (Stamford 2021) basket for Show Stoppers, 7 more Outwork points from Malone (off a feed from Chaffin, the final of her 7 assists), Chaffin, and Fox gave Outwork their largest lead at 58-42. Show Stoppers tried to make one final push after another Chaffin basket made it 60-47, with steals leading to Sanford threes on back-to-back possessions, but it was too little, too late. Malone pumped in a game and EST career high 24 points on 10/17 shooting. Fox added 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals - the 18 being her EST high - and Brianna Rozzi (Highland 2019) played a strong game as a floor general and finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Chaffin had 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 steals. Despite scoring just 1 point, Lauren Hill (Cobleskill-Richmondville 2018) - a 5'8" guard - pulled down an EST season high 15 rebounds. Sanford led Show Stoppers with 15 points and 4 rebounds, and Pasinella contributed 1 points. Madison Hoyt (Stamford 2019) and Julianna Okoniewski (Bethlehem 2018) again had solid games, finishing with 9 points apiece. Hoyt added 8 rebounds.

Rising Stars 51, Lockdown 38
A big 3rd quarter run gave Rising Stars some cushion in a game that was a tug-of-war for the first 25 minutes, and they were able to hold off any challenge from a fatigued Lockdown squad in the nightcap. It was a back-and-forth start, with 8 lead changes in the 1st half. Dolly Cairns (Saratoga Springs 2020) got off to a strong start, scoring 7 points in the opening stanza, and Rising stars led 13-12. Lockdown went on a run to start the 2nd, scoring 12 of the first 16 points and eventually saw their largest lead of 27-21 on an Amelia Wood (Averill Park 2022) 3 point play. A Cat Almeida (Shenendehowa 2019) free throw for Rising Stars tied it up at 29 going into the half. After a pair of Mallory Wood (Averill Park 2018) free throws started off the 3rd for Lockdown, it all went downhill for her team. A Julia Ryan (Shenendehowa 2018) three gave Rising Stars the lead for good at 32-31, and it started a 12-0 run culminating in another Cairns basket. After Jenalyse Alarcon (Troy 2021) briefly stopped the bleeding with a basket for Lockdown, Kerry Flaherty (Saratoga Springs 2019) responded with a jumper and 2 free throws to push their lead to 45-33. Lockdown's offense went stale for the rest of the game, as a Taylor Meacham (Berne-Knox-Westerlo 2020) drive and finish with 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter proved to be the last field goal they'd make, so even though Rising Stars only went 1/8 in the 4th, it didn't come back to haunt them. Cairns, a standout 2020 PG with an offer from Albany, led all scorers with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. High school/AAU teammate and fellow longtime area standout Flaherty added 10 points. The two combined to shoot 10/16 from the field. Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam 2018) added 7 points and 7 rebounds. Lockdown got a team high 11 points from Alarcon, and Mallory Wood added 8. Kelsey Wood (Averill Park 2020) had 11 rebounds to go with 4 points.
