Next Level 58, Dynasty 45

Next Level was able to withstand an early punch from an undermanned Dynasty squad, and they returned the favor in a big way by pulling away in the 2nd half to take home their 2nd victory over them this summer. Dynasty jumped out to a 17-8 lead midway through the 1st half, but Next Level got off the ground thanks to a strong start from Albany 2018 Bridget Whelan. The sharpshooting guard went on a personal 10-2 run, featuring 3 threes, to whittle away her team's deficit. It was off to the races in the final 20 minutes for the squad in blue after forging a 23-23 tie at the break. Next Level went on a 16-4 run to start the 2nd to quickly gain a double-digit advantage. 6'4" Shenendehowa 2019 Cat Almeida had 8 of her game and season high 16 points in that run, and Columbia 2019 & AAU teammate Grace Heeps had 5 in the spurt to get her night going. Dynasty was able to cut back into the lead thanks to a strong half from Shaker 2018 Lexi DeBeatham, cutting it as close to 6 at one point, but another Whelan spurt put it out of reach for good. A three by her followed by a drive & dish for a Lexi VanVorst (Columbia 2019) layup bumped their lead back up to 12 at 52-40, and they coasted from there. Almeida, Whelan, Heeps, and VanVorst accounted for 52 of their team's 58. Almeida had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks to go with her 16. Whelan added 14 with 5 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Heeps had 10 of her 12 in the 2nd half, and VanVorst had a season high 10 in her strongest game of the summer, with 5 rebounds and 4 steals to add to it. The aforementioned Lexi DeBeatham paced Dynasty with 14 points and 5 rebounds, and Julianna Taylor (Fonda-Fultonville 2017) added 12.

Show Stoppers 51, Outwork 32

A first half run helped Show Stoppers gain separation, and another run after halftime fueled by a strong defensive effort turned the 5:30 game between two of the league's three 1-loss teams into a blowout. Show Stoppers held their opponent to 3 points in a 7 minute stretch late in the 1st half, turning a tie game into a 7 point edge. With the score 22-16 at the break, Show Stoppers then scored the first 7 of the 2nd half to threaten to put it out of reach. Outwork made one more push back into the game using a run that was almost exclusively provided by Chloe Chaffin (Kingston 2018). They went on an 8-2 run on her baskets to cut their deficit to 7 at 31-24, but Show Stoppers responded with a strong team effort on both ends to steadily pull away - including holding Outwork to 2 points in the game's final 7 minutes. Nina Fedullo (Amsterdam 2017) finished with a team high 14 points, and she added 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Shyla Sanford (Shaker 2018) added 11 points, all in the 1st half, and Julia Kelner (Jamesville-Dewitt 2017) finished with 10. Lucy Tougas (Glens Falls 2017) provided a huge statistical game in the victory, finishing with game highs of 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals to go with her 7 points, and younger sister Sophie Tougas (Glens Falls 2019) had 7 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocks. The aforementioned Chaffin finished with a team high 14 points for Outwork on 7/11 shooting. Show Stoppers soundly defeated Outwork in all statistical categories - rebounding (38-25), assists (16-5), steals (12-6), and blocks (9-2).

Lockdown 51, Dynasty 26

The tank was on empty for Dynasty as their 6:30 game closed out. Playing their 2nd game of a back-to-back with limited bodies available, they went on a slump in the last few minutes of the 2nd half. Lockdown took advantage, reeling off the game's final 13 points to turn a semi-comfortable margin into a blowout victory. Lockdown led nearly wire-to-wire, including a secure 24-12 halftime margin, but Dynasty was able to score the first 7 points in the 2nd half to cut their deficit to 5 with 16 minutes remaining. They then went 5 minutes without a point and 7 without a field goal as Lockdown worked their way back up to a double digit cushion. After a Grace Mahar (Mount Anthony Union (VT) 2020) basket for Dynasty made the score 38-26 with just under 6 minutes remaining, the lid hopped on the basket and didn't come off. A balanced attack was led by Shenendehowa 2017 Sydney Brown and 2018 Alexandra Tudor for Lockdown. Each scored 13 points, a game high. Tudor, a 5'11" wing, added a game high 11 rebounds and 2 steals. Brown, a plug-and-play 6 footer, had 7 boards and also flashed the range with 2 threes. Lockdown's resident set of twins - Anna VanRoy and Grace VanRoy (Saugerties 2019) - contributed 8 and 7 points, respectively, with each adding 7 rebounds. For Dynasty, Julia DeBeatham (Shaker 2020) had 10 of her team high 11 points in the 1st half, including all 5 of Dynasty's 1st half field goals. She added 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Although Paige Brinkman (Schalmont 2018) didn't score in this game, she finished the game with 7 blocks, a new season high in EST.

Too Easy 43, Outwork 30

A nightmarish evening for Outwork continued, as they gave up a narrow halftime lead with a poor 2nd half en route to their 2nd double digit loss of the night. Outwork led for all of the first 20 minutes, taking 6 point leads at 10-4 and 13-7 midway through the half. Too Easy was able to cut their deficit to 1 at 20-19 at the break, thanks in part to getting to the line, where they went 9/13 in the opening stanza. They came out of the gates flying in the 2nd half, going on a 10-1 run over the first 5+ minutes to take an 8 point lead. Outwork was only slightly able to cut into that margin, knocking it down to 6 at 31-25 in the middle of the half. With 3 minutes left, Beekmantown teammates Kenna Guynup and Alyssa Waters knifed through the defense on back-to-back possessions for layups to extend their lead to 12 at 39-27 and effectively take the wind out of their opponent's sails. Both of them had strong games for the winners. Waters, a rising junior, led all scorers with 12 points on 5/9 shooting. Guynup, who will be a senior, finished with a double-double from the point guard spot with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lyndsey McCoy (Middleburgh 2017) paced Outwork with 9 points, and Madison Little (Mount Anthony Union (VT) 2017) added 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Rising Stars 46, Next Level 40

Rising Stars took advantage of a first half mental lapse from their opponent to take the lead, and they never relinquished possession of it en route to a 3rd straight win. Next Level gave up 8 quick points on easy baskets, which turned 1 point lead into a 7 point deficit late in the half. With the score 24-19 in favor of Rising Stars at the break, they scored the first 6 points of the 2nd half to extend their lead to double digits for the first time. It teetered around the 10 point mark for much of the half, with them also holding an 11 point lead at 36-25 and getting it to double digits once more at 42-32 with under 5 minutes remaining. Next Level tried to make a push, cutting it to 6 on two occasions late before the final margin, but their opponent was able to score each time to keep it at a safe margin. Balance was the name of the game for Rising Stars. All 9 players in uniform scored at least 3 points, with 5'11" F Kelsey Wood (Averill Park 2020) leading the way with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Stephanie Jankovic (Averill Park 2018) and Emily Wander (Bethlehem 2017) added 6 apiece; Jankovic also had 7 rebounds, and Wander had 4 rebounds & 4 assists. Most of the scoring came from 3 players for Next Level. 5'11" G Grace Heeps (Columbia 2019) led all scorers with 14 points in defeat, and she added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. 6'4" F Cat Almeida (Shenendehowa 2019) finished with a double double, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds along with 2 blocks, and Sophie Wittenbeck (Waterville 2018) also contributed 10 points.

Upstate Select 54, Show Stoppers 50

Upstate Select started off a strong bounce-back day by overcoming a double digit 2nd half deficit to take down one of the league's two remaining one-loss teams. Show Stoppers jumped out to a 22-11 lead with 6 minutes remaining in the 1st half, but a 3 point barrage - including three long balls in consecutive possessions - helped Upstate Select go on a 16-3 run to take a 27-25 lead 4 minutes later. Show Stoppers regained their composure in the late stages of the opening stanza and carried it forward into the 2nd half, where a strong start from Julia Kelner (Jamesville-Dewitt 2017) helped them take a double digit lead for the 2nd time, pushing the margin to 44-33 with 11 minutes remaining. From that point, it was all Upstate Select, as they scored 21 of the game's final 27 points. It started with a 10-0 run, and after the teams traded baskets, Select scored another 6 unanswered. That run culminated with a CeCe Mayo (Shaker 2017) steal and layup to give her team a 51-48 lead. Her performance was a massive reason for Select's comeback - after arriving near the end of the 1st half, she went off for a game high 16 points on 8/12 shooting, all in the final 20 minutes. She added 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Olivia Baumann (Guilderland 2017) added 11 points, all in the 1st half, as she was a driving force behind keeping Upstate Select in the game early. Nina Fedullo (Amsterdam 2017) led Show Stoppers in defeat with 15 points and 9 rebounds, and the aforementioned Kelner contributed with a double-double of 11 points & 10 boards.

Lockdown 46, Rising Stars 40

A nip & tuck game from front to back, Lockdown was able to respond to giving up the lead by reeling off the game's last 7 points to take home their second win of the night and move to 7-1 on the year. They jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first half, but Rising Stars briefly took the lead at 21-20 before Logan Bruce (Delaware Academy 2018) buried a floater at the buzzer to give Lockdown the lead again. Lockdown threatened to gain separation on multiple occasions in the 2nd stanza, but a strong last 20 minutes from Emily Wander (Bethlehem 2017) kept Rising Stars in the game throughout. A three from her trimmed it back to 1 at 30-29, and a pair of free throws from teammate Kyra Oeffler (Heatly 2018) gave Rising Stars the lead once more at 40-39. That would be it for them, though, as Cameron Tooley (Shenendehowa 2018) responded with a driving layup to give Lockdown the lead for good. High school classmate Alexandra Tudor added a steal & layup, and the aforementioned Logan Bruce knocked down a pair of free throws late to essentially put the game on ice. Sydney Brown (Shenendehowa 2017) had a team high 11 points for Lockdown. Bruce added 9, and Tudor & Addy Sackett (Delaware Academy 2017) added 8 points apiece. Tudor also had a team high 8 rebounds. Wander had a game high 16 in defeat, and Oeffler & Mallory Wood (Averill Park 2018) had 6 apiece.

Upstate Select 51, Too Easy 36

Upstate Select led wire-to-wire and was able to extend it as the 2nd half went on to grab their 2nd win of the night. A strong 1st half from CeCe Mayo (Shaker 2017) got them off on the right foot - her 11 points in the first 20 minutes helped them jump to a 25-17 halftime cushion. Olivia Baumann (Guilderland 2017) helped shoulder the scoring load after halftime, where she had 9 of her 12 points to extend the lead. Mayo finished with 17, a game high. Shiane Irwin (Poland 2017) also finished in double digits with 11 points. Emma Carter (Mount Abraham Union (VT) 2018) led Too Easy in defeat with 12, 10 coming after halftime.
